Ryan visited the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig, Germany, to meet with colleagues and present a seminar. The centre was established in 1991 and employs over 450 research scientists. He also presented a seminar at the nearby German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv), which was set up in 2012.
